Dr. Dre Developing a Music/Crime Drama Series for FX

Yup, that Dr. Dre, the producer who can rap and control the maestro at the same time with the dope rhyme that he kicks. Deadline reports that the rapper, producer, entrepreneur and headphone-maker is getting into the TV game with an hour-long drama script development deal at FX.

The project “explores present day Los Angeles through the lenses of the music business and the crime business.” Sidney Quashie, who worked with Spike Lee on his no-go NBC drama project about post-Katrina New Orleans “NoLa,” will write the script and executive produce with Dre.

Dre and the artist formerly (?) known as Snoop Dogg performed alongside a hologram of the late Tupac Shakur at Coachella earlier this year.

In addition to having directed music videos, Dre’s dabbled in film before with appearances in the 1996 bank robbery film “Set It Off” and 2001’s “The Wash” and “Training Day.” He signed a deal with New Line in 2007 to make dark comedies and horror flicks through his production company Crucial Films, though nothing came of it before the company merged with Warner Bros. Dre was also attached to produce NWA film “Straight Outta Compton” — though the status of that project (Andrea Berloff was brought on to write the screenplay in 2010) is unclear.
