Wow: Test pilots trace 787 and Boeing logo across the sky, from Seattle to Iowa

How’s this for some corporate branding?

A Boeing

787 test flight currently under way across the northern half of the United States is following a flight path that traces the numbers “787″ … PLUS the company’s logo.

It’s not the first time the company has traced numbers across the sky, but the intricate logo takes the whole thing up a notch. posted about this after noticing the unusual flight path on FlightAware. Unfortunately, FlightAware is a bit hit-and-miss in terms of showing the accurate route, so watching it unfold live may not be realistic, but you can see what it was showing as of 3 a.m. Pacific time in our screenshot above.

Originating and ending at Boeing Field in Seattle, the flight represents quite possibly the most indirect route ever taken between Seattle and (roughly) Davenport, Iowa.

Update, 5:30 a.m.: They’re almost done. Here’s what it looks like now …

Update, 7:20 a.m.: Now they’re headed back to Boeing Field, tracing the same route over the numbers so as not to mess up the design.

Update, 8:50 a.m.: They’ve landed. Here is their finished piece of work. I wonder if they’ll take requests for future flights? A new form of product placement?
